Precepts Study Series:

Introduction to the Sixteen Bodhisattva Precepts


         Saturdays, 9-11:45 a.m. 

September 14, 21; October 5, 12, 26;


The classes are open to all those interested in learning about the precepts and are highly recommended for everyone practicing at ZCLA. The classes will be a combination of lectures and discussion. Assignments will be given. It is a prerequisite for everyone interested in formally receiving the precepts (Jukai).  


The Precept Class topics include:

  • The Three Treasures 
  • The Three Tenets
  • The Three Vehicles,
  • Cause and Effect    
  • The Ten Grave Precepts
  • Atonement
  • ZCLA’s Statement of Right Conduct


Tuition for Precept Series: $175 members; $300 nonmembers Includes Precepts and Study Workbook text.


Jukai (Receiving the Precepts) Class Series


Saturdays, 9-11:15 a.m.

November 9 & 23


This two-class series is for those who wish to receive the precepts. The Precepts Series is a prerequisite for these classes. The class topics include the Lineage, bowing practice, the Jukai Ceremony, the Rakusu (the Buddha’s robe), and the mudra of Gassho.


Tuition for Jukai Series: $70 for members; $120 nonmembers.

Tuition for both series: $200 members; $375 non-members.

No one is turned away for lack of funds.
